I started bboying in the year 2000. I saw classes at a local community center offering Breakdancing, so i begged my parents to let me do it. The first day i went to a class, the crews Defcon 5 and Irresponsible Souls were teaching. This was slightly before the time DJ BlesOne and Joerawk from Massive Monkees moved up to Seattle and were living in Portland. Those guys inspired me so much throughout the years.
I fell off a little but until the year 2004 when I really started to notice the Korean scene blow up. I had been to Freestyle Sessions, Out for Fame, and Bboy Summit battles, but never before had I seen such incredible execution in power moves or blow ups. After watching clips of these Korean bboys over the internet, I started training hard over the style I was partial to (stacking and blowups). It's hard to get props in a location were nobody else does your style, but that never mattered. I ended up starting my crew now, Hardwood Heroes, in 2004 with my best friends at the time. We came up incredibly hard in a short amount of time, then through problems in our families that couldn't be helped, and the passing away of our dearest best friend and crew mate Andy Panyanouvath, who was one of my inspirations, part of the crew moved away, some quit, and we went into a recession of our own.
After this I started pursuing my goal of living and going to school in Korea. Mainly to learn to speak Korean for my future in international relations, but also for the amazing inspiration Korean bboys gave me. After meeting and training with T.I.P crew, the nicest and most incredible guys I have ever met, I have never been more inspired. After the passing of my best friend, the training up of a second generation of HH, and pursuit of humanitarian work in the world today, I find myself in Korea and I have never been more content, inspired, and grateful than I am today.
Peace and God Bless.
